AHMEDABAD: Confusion over implementation of the 27% OBC quota continued in the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, even after details of the Supreme Court judgment came in on Friday. This because IIMs also offer postgraduate diploma courses to students.
Three other institutes in the state will be affected by the SC verdict. These being National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad (NID), National Institute for Fashion Technology (NIFT) and Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (SVNIT).
Although IIM-A authorities remained non-committal on the quota issue, the institute's official website continued to carry the notice that the admission procedure scheduled to begin on Friday, has been deferred.

The institute's director and Chair of Postgraduate Programme admissions have received a copy of the judgment each and are in the process of analysing it to determine its implications on the institute. Satish Deodhar, the faculty incharge of PGP admissions said, "We have not yet received any notification from the ministry of human resource and development, but we on our own are working on a plan to implement the quota. Since the weekend is approaching, just in case we do not receive any notification from the HRD ministry, we might also seek legal opinion."
"We are also in touch with all other IIMs and the confusion continues for everyone. We were even trying to decide a new date for issuing an admission list," Deodhar said, late Friday evening.
